According to
CNET, McAfee reported this week that an external auditor lost a CD containing information on over 6000 employees. How does this stuff still happen?
Proven Security
The funny thing is at the time of the release the first thing I noticed on the McAfee website was a statement that said:
"Proven Security: Millions of homes and businesses trust McAfee for unmatched security expertise and comprehensive protection". Yeah right...
We're sure everything is OK
Even though most of the fault lies with the auditor (Deloitte & Touche) you have to wonder with all the news about employee and customer information being lost or stolen these days that they would make an effort to protect this type of data.
Of course, these stories are always accompanied by a company statement letting us know that nobody is in danger because even though they don't know where the information is they can assure us no harm will come to us.
This story was no different, as McAfee spokesperson Siobhan MacDermot stated that "We have no reason to believe that any of the information has been accessed, and we are proactively protecting McAfee current and former employees with credit monitoring services".
I guess the employees will just have to wait and see.
