Do we need High Definition DVD Players?
Will streaming do the same job as HD DVD Players?

Why we do need High Definition DVD Players
We don't, didn't you read the previous page? I'm just joking, there are two reasons I can think of (or care to think of) that would require a High Definition DVD Player.

Scenario 1: People like to own a physical copy of the movie. There are also people that collect movies and would like to be able to re-watch the movie whenever they want, instead of having to pay and download it.

Scenario 2 (and the most likely reason): The MPAA thinks they'll have much better control over copyrighted works if they stay away from the internet and distribute content on their encrypted disks. This is most likely the reason since the MPAA is so afraid of HD content making it on people's computers and then onto the internet. It's pretty obvious from the news I've been hearing that High Definition DVDs won't be able to play in high def unless the connection from the DVD player to the monitor (TV) allows for an encrypted signal. If they don't trust with HD movies that we've purchased, there is no way they'll provide us with the stuff in digital format and deliver over the internet.

Adoption will be slow
I don't think it matters either way since HD adoption seems to be moving at a snail's pace. Hopefully one day all content will be in high definition and easily accessible in many different formats.
